How to deal with winter hair disasters

How to deal with winter hair disasters

Winter is here – with a vengeance! The harsh cold weather can be very damaging to your hair and brings with it some annoying problems…

Winter Hair Problem #1: Dry hair

There is less moisture in the air during the winter months. The cold, dry air outside and the manufactured heat indoors can strip your hair of all its moisture, leaving it dry and causing breakage. What’s more, wearing hats and scarves tends to make the problem worse and dries out your hair, skin and scalp.

KMS Moist Repair range at No 11 The SalonWe recommend the KMS Moist Repair shampoo and conditioner for dry or damaged hair, which restores moisture and reduces breakage. KMS Moist Repair revival creme can also be used on towel-dried hair to instantly improve manageability without weighting hair down.

During the winter months, it’s a great idea to treat your hair once a week to a deep conditioning treatment, such as KMS Moist Repair therapy treatment which penetrates deeply to reconstruct, strengthen and moisturise.

Keep washing your hair to a minimum, say two to three times a week, this will prevent your hair from drying out too much. And always make sure you dry your hair before leaving the house. Not only because you will get a cold, but the moisture in your hair combined with the cold air, will add further damage to your hair by making it more brittle and dry.

Winter Hair Problem #2: Dry, itchy scalp

KMS Head Remedy range helps hair in winterReduced moisture in the winter air can also bring the dreaded dry scalp or worsen an existing scalp condition, not helped by excessive dry heat indoors and diet. You may also experience some itchiness and tightness with a dry scalp (but not excessive itching which is often caused by dandruff or eczema). Sometimes, you will find some flakes of dead skin, like dandruff. However, dry scalp is not dandruff. Your hair can also look lifeless, frizzy, dull, and easily break and fall out. Dry scalp can even lead to hair loss, if this condition is left untreated.

The key to properly shampooing a dry scalp is in the preparation. Massage your scalp with before washing to remove buildup of oil, hair products and skin cells. We then recommend using a KMS Head Remedy shampoo which is perfect for dry itchy scalp it eliminates flakes and provides soothing relief.

Apparently, sleeping on a silk pillowcase can also help, since cotton absorbs moisture and silk retains it.

Winter Hair Problem #3: Fly Away Hair and Static Electricity

KMS Hair Stay range helps flyaway winter hairOn cold winter days when hair gets dry, flyaways caused by static electricity can make the ‘do that you worked so hard for in the morning fall apart. Whether it’s static electricity or natural frizz, flyaways can be tamed.

We recommend the KMS Hair Stay range. In particular the Anti humidity seal, which has a humidity blocking formula to shield hair from frizz and provides a shiny weightless finish.

Its also important to protect the hair from all the elements. One very simple tip is to wear a hat when out as it keeps your hair covered from the wind, rain and snow. Avoid the dreaded ‘hat hair’ by wrapping your hair in a silk scarf before putting on your cozy, wool beanie. This helps to protect your hair from damage caused by the hat rubbing against your hair and it also cuts down on the static.

Winter Hair Problem #4: Split Ends

The best thing for split ends is to have a haircut. Regular trims are a great way to keep your hair in good health during the winter months, just a light dusting of the ends can help reduce the chance of dry, splitting ends.

If this isn’t possible, we recommend reconstruct range in specific split ends recovery concentrate, this nourishes dry ends and binds the split ends back together also forms a protective layer around each hair strand for suppleness and a healthy shine.
